How to transfer data to OziExplorer using an infrared connection
Note: this is not the default way to import and export tracks, waypoints and routes. If you just look for a way to do that, you can save and load OziExplorer's PLT, WPT and RTE files.
Please refer to the GPSXC user manual for further info.
Configure OziExplorer
Start OziExplorer
Choose "File -> Configuration" from the menu.
Go to the "GPS" tab and set "Garmin" at the "GPS Make" option. Choose "Other Garmins" as "GPS Model".
You can also change the options under "GPS Parameters" to some higher values that suit your needs.
GPSXC does not force any practical limit on track size or waypoints and routes count.
Now go to the "COM" Tab and set the "Com Port" option to the com port associated with your infrared link.
On MS Windows XP and MS Windos 2000 (starting from SP2) a special COM port is automatically created when an infrared device is connected.
This is usually COM 4, but might change, depending on your configuration. Please see the "Troubleshooting" section for a way to discover the COM port number.
Transfer tracks, waypoints and routes
In GPSXC choose Enable Ir Transfer from the menu. Please note: DO NOT ENABLE THE PHONE'S INFRARED CONNECTION.
Align the phone with your PC in order to activate the infrared link.
You will see the following icon on the taskbar when the devices are correctly aligned and configured:
Now is time to transfer data: in OziExplorer under the "Garmin" menu choose
"Get Waypoints from GPS",
"Get Track from GPS" or "Get Routes from GPS" to download data from GPSXC or choose
"Send Waypoints to GPS",
"Send Track to GPS" or "Send Routes to GPS" to upload data to GPSXC.
Please note that when you upload a track, this will be saved in GPSXC as the "Reference Track". The "Active Track" can not be overwritten in order to avoid
tampering in professional tracking or competitions.
Troubleshooting
How do I know which COM port to use?
On MS Windows XP or MS Windows 2000 (starting from SP2) a special COM port is enabled when the infrared link is activated.
This COM port is mainly used to permit modem communications with your phone.
To discover the COM port number, activate the infrared link on your phone (as described above) and align the phone with your PC and wait some seconds until the communication is enabled.
You will see this icon in the taskbar once the communication is enabled:
Now launch the control panel, open "Phone and Modem Options" and select the "Details" tab.
You will see the COM port number on the line identified by "Standard Modem over IR link"
